“Vanitas, still life in one act, for voice, cello and piano” is the work of Salvatore Sciarrino (Palermo 1947), one of the most prominent figures in contemporary music.
“Vanitas” was premiered in Teatro Piccola Scala in Milan on 11th December 1981 and it is a mixture of sounds in which three performers, the mezzo-soprano Marisa Martins, the pianist Ricardo Bini and the cellist Dragos Balan, take on the leading role, rivaling and complementing in the search for musical space and silence.
The staging of the work, which central axis is the idea of transience of life, is directed by Risa Cosentino, who says that she has recreated from just a few elements and the support of a careful video projection, created by Celeste Carrasco, the rich inner universe that emanates from the work of Salvatore Sciarrino in an interesting and emotional journey through the corners of the mind.
This time we leave the theater room and go to the stage, which is set up for the public to enjoy this opera at the closest proximity.
