THE CUBAN JAZZ SYNDICATE is a solid formation of great Cuban musicians led by the drummer Michael Olivera. The ensemble takes us a sonic journey that starts on the island of Cuba and travels through various global soundscapes that will make you vibrate with emotion.
With an extensive career as a drummer, producer, composer and arranger, Michael Olivera is closely linked to the jazz scene. He appears on more than 60 recorded albums and in hundreds of projects with which he has participated at major festivals namely Jazz à Vienne, Marciac, North Sea Jazz, Montreux Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Fest, Blue Note NY, Blue Note Tokyo, Jakarta Jazz Festival, Warsaw Jazz Festival, Madrid Jazz Festival, Barcelona Jazz Festival, and many others. He has performed with figures such as Quincy Jones, Alfredo Rodriguez Trio, Richard Bona, Jorge Pardo, Paquito de Rivera, Pepe Rivero, Caramelo de Cuba, Rick Wakeman, Tomatito, etc.
A graduate of the Escuela Nacional de Arte of la Habana, Olivera recorded his first work as a bandleader, Ashé, a word derived from the Yoruba (Afro-Cuban) language, meaning “Divine Blessing”. Following this success, Olivera presented us with another work, Oasis, replete with melodies and infectious rhythms. Olivera now presents this new formation, The Cuban Jazz Syndicate, which brings together the best Cuban artists living in Spain with their latest album: Y llegó la luz.
