Considered the father of American poetry, Walt Whitman (1819 – 1892), and his masterpiece *Leaves of Grass* (1855), have influenced other greats of literature such as T. S. Eliot, Borges, Neruda, and Lorca. Juan Diego Botto returns to the stage of the Teatro Arriaga after the unforgettable *Una noche sin luna*, this time joined by Nur Levi and Alejandro Pelayo (Marlango), with a proposal that combines poetry and music.
Whitman was heavily influenced by deism. He denied that any one faith was more important than another and embraced all religions equally. He was a skeptical religious figure; although he accepted all churches, he believed in none. For him, the human soul is immortal and exists in a state of constant and progressive development. Through the reading of his poems and the original music composed by Alejandro Pelayo, we delve into the historical framework and social context of the poet. Walt Whitman passed away in New York in 1892, the same year that Ellis Island began admitting immigrants.
