With over twenty years of experience, the Astor Piazzolla Quintet has embarked on numerous tours worldwide. In recent years, the ensemble has released four albums (“Revolucionario,” “Fugata,” “En 3×4,” and “Triunfal”) with a remarkable level of interpretive skill, bringing both classic and lesser-known works from Piazzolla’s musical journey to the forefront. These compositions sound new and fresh as if they were emerging directly from the composer’s mind.
The Quintet has once again won the first prize for the best tango album, “Operation Tango,” at the Grammys held in November 2023 in Seville. Following the commemoration of Piazzolla’s centennial birth, the group is preparing for the 2024/2025 international tour presenting this new CD. It’s an opportunity to pay tribute to the great Master with a retrospective look at his extensive creative world, combining both his academic output and popular repertoire in the same concert. Ultimately, it keeps alive the vast body of work from the composer who revolutionized tango.
