Felip Pedrell, a renowned musicologist and composer, has gone down in musical history as the Master of Masters. Not only did he revive traditional Spanish music, but he also blended it with significant European currents. All his disciples, Granados, de Falla, Albéniz, Lamote de Grignon, and so on, with hardly any exceptions, spent time in Paris on Pedrell’s recommendation. After years of study in the capital of the Seine, influenced by various musical aesthetics and mastering the language, many of them ventured to compose some “Chanson.” The repertoire of French songs by Spanish composers is so vast, yet relatively unknown, that several recitals could be made with such material. The renowned Núria Rial, a great international artist, presents an exquisite selection of “melodies” by some of Pedrell’s disciples, but also by Rodrigo, Montsalvatge, Mompou, Guridi, Sorozabal, Aita Donosti, Pau Casals, Chapí, Padilla… undoubtedly, a musical feast of back and forth.
