MILA ESKER, JONAN ORDORIKA

LORALDIA FESTIBALA

A tribute to a sound technician and an indispensable profession.

12 march 2025

Jonan Ordorika passed away suddenly last summer. It was a heavy blow for Basque music. He was a passionate music lover and one of the most dedicated and beloved sound technicians in Euskal Herria. He was an tireless worker, both on stage and at the recording desk, and countless musicians worked with him. His recording studio was located in Azkarate, in the Argiñenea farmhouse, a studio he opened in 1991 along with Ángel Katarain and Amaia Apaolaza.

He was a humble creator who worked in the shadows, but was indispensable in bringing quality to numerous Basque music productions. On his own initiative, in 2014, he created a project called *Mil esker*, in which several musicians brought Lou Reed’s songs into Basque. We also had a visit from the American creator, thanks to Ordorika.

The Loraldia festival itself often relied on Ruper Ordorika’s brother to handle the sound. He deserved recognition, and this great show responds to that wish. A myriad of musicians will gather on the stage of the Teatro Arriaga in a concert that also aims to pay tribute to all those professionals who provide sound for performances in Euskal Herria.
