Don Julián is an old master of lyrical theatre and, back in the day, he was the singing teacher of the famous Susan King. Susan is actually the soprano Susana Rey, whose worldwide hits blended Zarzuela (Spanish operetta) with wide-ranging styles such as pop, rock, hip hop and reggaeton.
Don Julián is old and sick. He lives alone in a modern, automated care home for the elderly. Susana is still very fond of her old teacher, and she travels from the USA to visit him even though he does not want to see her, as he believes she squandered his teaching by applying it to unsavoury music. Over the years that Susana was Don Julian’s most brilliant student, the age difference did not stop him feeling deeply attracted to his young disciple. She also feels unfathomably dependent on her maestro’s intense grip over her life.
