Macho grita (Chronicle of My Own Ignorance about the History of Spain) is a musical comedy that uses the myth of Don Juan to explore the relationship between our present and the cycle that began in 1492. It offers a personal approach to the “Reconquista,” the “discovery of America,” and the expulsion of Jews and Moriscos, using humour to reflect on how “Macho” is constructed in this territory. It stems from the desire to delve into the invisible (or obscured) history of Spain, with the faint hope of understanding things that are useful for life today, when the will to dominate and the predatory drive on which we have built our societies threaten to destroy us.
