In 1949, substitute teacher Clement Mathieu joins the “Bottom of the Pond” boarding school, where Headmaster Rachin has imposed a draconian regime which shuns music. Failed musician Mathieu breaks the rules to reveal the beauty of the world to these young boys against the bitter backdrop of World War II. Inspired by his own childhood and an old French cinema classic, Christophe Barratier took this idea and created one of the most unforgettable movies from the early 21st century, enriched by Bruno Coulais’s sublime music.

Los chicos del coro, el musical is not just an adaptation of a well-loved film. It simultaneously takes a stance on the need for music, art and personal growth. As ancient philosophers and thinkers used to say, it is not just music that calms the savage beast (although these children are merely naughty, not ferocious) but art makes us truly human. This musical talks about forgotten children but also of innocence, play, love…It talks about hard work and sticking together, work and enthusiasm…It talks about life and art.

The choir of boys and girls come from the “Los Chicos del Coro” school. 15 of them appear on stage in each performance, alongside an amazing cast led by Natalia Millán and Rafa Castejón.
