JOAQUÍN ACHÚCARRO

Joaquín Achúcarro is a household name, at least in Bilbao! This concert pianist has graced the most outstanding stages in the world during his 90 years on Earth. After a career spanning more than seven decades, he is back in the Arriaga Theatre to give a concert with a wide-ranging repertoire where he will once again exhibit his virtuosity and rank.

Achúcarro’s artistic career is above all characterized by how he understands music and his instrument. He has reaped huge success and received many awards: Artist for Peace from UNESCO, Accademico ad Honorem de la Accademia Chigiana de Siena (Italy), Gold Medal for Fine Arts, National Music Prize, Academic of Honour from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in San Fernando, Doctor Honoris Causa from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, holder of the J.E.Tate Chair at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Honoured Son of the City of Bilbao, Universal Basque, and even the Astronomical Union (IAU) named mini-planet 22191 “Joaquín Achúcarro”, to pay homage to his universal career.
