THE CRAZY 20s IN ARRIAGA
The Jerusalem Quartet is a regular guest in the world’s finest concert halls. In North America, the quartet has performed in cities such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington and Cleveland, as well as at the Ravinia Festival. In Europe, the quartet has been enthusiastically welcomed in London’s Wigmore Hall, Tonhalle Zürich, Herkulessaal in Munich, Theatre des Champs-Elysées, Auditorium du Louvre Paris, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg… and at festivals such as Salzburg, Verbier, Schleswig-Holstein, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Rheingau and St. Petersburg, among others.
In spring 2019, the quartet released a unique album exploring Jewish music and its influence in the interwar period in Central Europe and, consequently, in the United States after the Second World War. Acclaimed Israeli soprano Hila Baggio lends her elegant crystalline voice to this project, performing a beautiful collection of Yiddish Cabaret songs from Warsaw in the 1920s. The quartet commissioned the composer Leonid Desyatnikov to arrange these songs. Schulhoff’s Five Pieces (1924), a collection of short, light cabaret-type pieces, and Korngold’s Quartet No. 2 (1937) make up the programme.
