There has always been a place for the clarinet and voice, not only in classical music, but also in popular music. They have always been greatly connected to what the people needed to express, at times of celebration and also pain. In this concert, with accompanied on the piano, the audience is given the chance to listen to music by persecuted composers through the expression of both instruments, with all their melancholy and humour.
Among the works to be played, we will enjoy an aria composed by a Knight of St George in the 18th century, condemned for his black skin; and they will also play music by composers persecuted by the Nazis, chamber music sonatas with neoclassic languages brought to us by Hindemith, Martinu and Horovitz; Lieder cycles by Ullmann, Milhaud and Zeisi, and the solo work for clarinet that Messiaen wrote when incarcerated in a concentration camp, dedicated to birdsong from the abyss.
