2022 marks the centenary of the death of Felip Pedrell I Sabaté (Tortosa, 19 February 1841 – Barcelona, 19 August 1922), a fundamental figure in Spanish music and, paradoxically, an author little known (and recognised) for his compositional work, which has faded into the background in contrast to his immense significance as a musicologist. Pedrell holds a privileged place in the Spanish musical landscape due to his work as a music educator and musicologist. His contribution was fundamental in the rediscovery of the country’s musical past, and it is to him we owe the publication of the complete works of Tomás Luis de Victoria, among other works.
Creator of modern Spanish musicology, author of the musical Anthology (a historical compilation of his research on folk music), and teacher of Albéniz, Granados, Gerhard, Turina, and de Falla, among others, this recital aims to introduce the public to the lesser-known side of the composer of songs for voice and piano. The repertoire will include a varied selection of melodies in French, Catalan and Spanish.
