The Arriaga Theatre is once again staging one of its most special recent productions: Garai Zekenak/Tiempos mezquinos, loved by audiences and critics alike last season and nominated to the Max Awards in three categories: Best Adapted Theatre Play for Denise Despeyroux, Best Stage Director for Raúl Cancelo and Best Actress in a Leading Role for Miren Gaztañaga. The beautiful production is coming back with four additional performances – two in Spanish and another two in Basque.
Based on Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, Denise Despeyroux’s Garai Zekenak is an attractive show, staged in the theatre hall, grand staircase, foyer and the so-called Salita Isabelina rather than the main hall. This quite unusual choice invites theatre-goers to move around, triggering a physical and emotional journey. A very special theatrical experience indeed, where the audience accompanies the performers around the theatre.
