Having translated and adapted numerous songs by the American songwriter on the shared album ‘Abesti Bat Gutxiago’, the Lou Topet Banda, the writer Harkaitz Cano and well-known friends of Basque music are continuing to pull on the thread and to revive Pete Seeger, by adapting his songs on this unique and unforgettable evening.
If any musician can be said to be immortal, that musician is Pete Seeger, one of the most important folk singers from the US. The legacy of this New York musician is unquestionable, and many great artists such as Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan never tire of defending his importance. Seeger, together with Woody Guthrie, was the musical standard bearer for the US left-wing movement. Engraved forever in our memory are the verses sung to the Lincoln Battalion, as is the visit he made to Euskal Herria in 1978. His influence on Basque music has also been substantial, and singers such as Benito Lertxundi, Fermin Muguruza and Gari have brought Seeger into the Basque songbook.
The Lou Topet Banda will be renewing Seeger’s classic songs and offering a celebration of music on stage at the Arriaga Theatre, featuring great artists such as Aiora Renteria, Anje Duhalde, Eñaut Elorrieta and Izaro, among others.
