A staged concert featuring ancient music, a mediaeval battle, a battle of emotions, a poetical circle inspired by the compositions of Claudio Monteverdi, who revolutionised music with his unique understanding that it had to express the emotional lines of the text.
“Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda” was first performed in 1624 in the Venetian palace of Girolamo Mocenigo, and was later published as part of Monteverdi’s Eighth Book of Madrigals (1638). In this musical play, the dramatic onus falls on the role of “testo”, the tenor who narrates the story of the warring and amorous adventures of the protagonists. History allows us to reflect on the nature of love, loss, and relationships understood as struggles. These themes are a constant in several of the composer’s madrigals, little gems that speak to us about the mysteries of love, seduction, and human relations.
